Introduction

"It is an experience like no other experience I can describe, the best thing that can happen to a scientist, realizing that something that's happened in his or her mind exactly corresponds to something that happens in nature."

-- theoretical physicist Leo Kadanoff

Today's Class

We began a discussion of Chaos. Supplementary Notes on this topic exist: html pdf. There is also a supplement to the Supplementary Notes which is linked to from the main document; convenience links are here: html pdf.

We have almost finished this discussion. We ended the class with a discussion of the Hausdorff method for measuring dimensions, but have not yet applied it to fractionally dimensional systems.
