Operating Instructions
- Put balance in desired position on the table and level
it. Make sure the table does not wobble and the
balance pan is clean and free from loose material.
- Put all weights in the zero position and unlock the
balance slowly. Read the null position of the beam.
If it is off position, rotate the zero adjustment
weights to bring the beam to a readable position.
Lock the balance when finished.
- Put object to be measured on the scale pan or hang it
from scale pan hook. Adjust 10 and 100 g weights to
your estimate of the object's mass and unlock balance
slowly. Observe the beam position and relock and
readjust weights in order to find nearest point to
balance, on the low side.
- When large weights are in position unlock the balance
and adjust the 1 gram rider to bring the beam to the
null position found in step 2.
- Lock the balance and take reading.
- Begin next weighing at step 3, after putting 1 g rider
to zero position.
Hints
The Cent-o-gram balance has no damping. To speed the
reading process restrict the beam motion by putting your
right hand thumb and forefinger just above and below the end
of the beam, at the null indicator. Use the end of a pencil
to move the 1 gram rider, if you are not nimble fingered.
