PHY132S Waves - Class 8 - Wednesday January 28 2009

Today we finished the Waves section of PHY132. We discussed lens optics and returned to the topic of mirrors. The textbook references are §23.6 through §23.8.

For the Java applet linked to below, we used it a couple of different ways:

• We played with object-image relations with the object to the left of the focal point. using Principal rays. The text calls these special rays. We also sometimes chose Many rays.
• We then placed the object to the right of the focal point and turned on Virtual Image to see the image. This illustrates a simple magnifying glass.

As always, you can learn a lot by exploring even more with this applet.
