Today's Class

The Homework

Reminder: the "cork in the bucket" homework assignment is due in tutorial this week.

The Test

You will be getting the test back in tutorial this week. In general, the tutors and I were pleased with the overall performance by the class, although some individuals could improve. The answers and marking scheme for the test are available as a pdf document here. Once your mark has been entered by your tutor into STORM, you can not only check the mark but also see statistics on the overall distribution of marks on the test by all students.

The Paper

You are to prepare a preliminary Outline and Bibliography of the paper. The purpose is to:

• Get you thinking about the paper now.
• To open a channel of communication between you, me, and the tutors about the paper while it is still in the planning stages.

It is due in class on Tuesday, March 12. This is two weeks today! The paper is then due two weeks after that: Tuesday March 26.

We also discussed alternatives to a traditional paper, including:

• A group project.
• A class presentation.
• A class presentation by a group.

The Physics

We began the Symmetry section of the syllabus by talking about mirrors and mirror symmetry. Supplementary Notes have been prepared on this. The html version is available here and the pdf version is available here. We have almost finished this discussion.
